Sapphire Suction Reservoir

SAPPHIRE SUCTION RESERVOIR™ is a proprietary construction, blue colored, heavy duty 100cc silicone bulb that incorporates an anti-reflux valve to help prevent reflux of fluid.  The bulb is designed with markers at 25, 50, 75, and 100cc to allow measurement of the fluid in the reservoir.  The reservoir has a strap with a stainless steel spring clip, which allows it to be conveniently attached to a garment (instructions for use).

We offer it to be used in conjunction with our SeromaCath® drains to collect serous fluid but it offers superior performance for aspirating any bodily fluid.  Because we put a much greater amount of silicone into this reservoir when we mold it, the Sapphire Suction Reservoir™ has the highest suction of any brand name 100cc silicone reservoir on the market.

For example, compared to the popular Jackson Pratt® SU130-1305 “JP Bulb”, the Sapphire Suction Reservoir™ has 55% greater suction!  Greater suction promotes faster wound healing.  Try this product once and you will never go back to using paper thin reservoirs.

Indications

The Sapphire Suction Reservoir™ has a wide variety of applications in post-operative drainage procedures where continuous drainage against gravity is necessary. Closed system drainage reduces the possibility of fluid contamination and allows the visual examination of the contents. The Sapphire Suction Reservoir™ may be used in general surgery, orthopedic surgery, urologic surgery, and neurosurgery.

It is important that the patency of the suction reservoir be verified immediately prior to use and be tested as follows:

1. With the drainage plug (B) removed, squeeze the reservoir until it has collapsed.

2. Holding the reservoir in a collapsed position, insert the drainage plug (B) to seal the drainage opening.

3. Release the squeezing pressure to allow the reservoir to inflate. When the anti-reflux valve is functioning properly, the reservoir will completely reinflate.

4. In the event the reservoir does not completely inflate repeat test procedure #1 through #3 described above. This repeat action should open the anti-reflux valve and permit it to function normally.

5. In order to maintain vacuum, it is necessary that all of the drainage holes leading to the lumen be located within the wound exit. Connect the drainage tube to the reservoir inlet port (A). To create the vacuum, open the reservoir drainage plug (B), collapse the reservoir, and replace the drainage plug (B) to the port spout (C).

6. The strap with stainless steel clip may be used to secure the reservoir to the exterior of the wound dressing or any other convenient location.
7. Estimate the volume of drainage material collected in the reservoir by removing the drainage plug (B) to release the vacuum and observing the level of fluid in relation to the volume gradations (in cubic centimeters) on the wall of the reservoir.

8. Empty the reservoir system by removing the drainage plug (B) by holding the reservoir in an inclined position above the collection basin with the drainage plug at the lowest position and gently squeezing the walls of the reservoir to discharge the collected fluid. The vacuum can be re-established at any time by following the procedure outlined above.

WARNING: An effective closed suction system requires maintenance of the system to preserve patency. The drain must not be allowed to become occluded nor the reservoir to completely fill, as these would cause the wound drainage to cease. If the reservoir is not emptied when it is full, the likelihood of back contamination increases.

The Sapphire Suction Reservoir™ bulb is recommended for single use only. Do not re-sterilize.

Caution: Federal law (USA) restricts this device to sale by or on the order of a physician.
