The Blunt SeromaCath® was specifically designed for treatment of postoperative seromas surrounding breast implants (instructions for use).

Indications

The SeromaCath® Wound Drainage System is the first and only patented system designed and clinically proven to effectively treat post-operative seromas following mastectomy, axillary dissection, groin dissection, latissimus dorsi flap, TRAM flap, liposuction, abdominoplasty, breast implants, and other procedures.

Instructions for use of SeromaCath® #1275: (download pdf file)

1. Using aseptic technique, with the patient in the lateral decubitus position insert the catheter/stylet needle/plug obliquely through the skin and subcutaneous tissue, away from the breast implant.
2. Remove the stylet needle/plug from the catheter and insert the metal SeromaCath® #1275/syringe into the catheter.
3. In the immediate postoperative period, with a thin capsule surrounding the breast implant, advance the combined metal SeromaCath® #1275/syringe catheter obliquely through the subcutaneous tissue, muscle, and thin capsule into the internal capsular space and seroma.
4. In the late postoperative period, with a thick capsule surrounding the breast implant, apply a cutting electric current from a standard surgical cautery unit to the metal hub of the combined SeromaCath® #1275/syringe catheter and advance through the subcutaneous tissue, muscle, and thick capsule into the internal capsular space and seroma.
Silicone will not conduct electricity. A cutting electric current applied to the metal hub of the SeromaCath® #1275 that is touching the breast implant will not puncture the implant.
5. Secure the catheter to the skin with sutures. Remove the metal SeromaCath® #1275/syringe from the catheter and connect the male luer lock end of the drainage tube to the catheter.

6. Insert the open end of the drainage tube over the inlet port (A) of the bulb suction reservoir. Activate the suction reservoir by compressing the reservoir body completely. With the reservoir collapsed, insert the drainage plug (B) into the pour spout (C) as far as possible and release the reservoir.

WARNING: All catheter holes must be located in the wound site and an airtight seal achieved at the catheter exit. Be careful not to kink the catheter at the exit site.

Caution: Federal law (USA) restricts this device to sale by or on the order of a physician.
